Campground Notes 2016

Cheaha State Park

Had a terrible time finding a site we could level the motorhome. Arrived in the afternoon and went to the lower campground. Tried 3 or 4 sites with no luck in leveling the motorhome. Left and went to the upper campground. Tried one site and managed to get level left to right. Since it was almost dark we settled for that for the night. The 30 amp plug in was in bad shape and burned a prong on my surge protector (site 6). The next morning we moved up a couple of sites and managed to get level (site 12).

The roads in the campgrounds were terrible. The sites are graveled and didn't look like they had been maintained well. The last campers in the site we stayed in didn't leave the site clean. The whole time we were there either the staff never came to clean the bathhouse or they came very early or very late. We never saw them.

This goes on our list with Guntersville State Park for ones we'll skip.

Wind Creek State Park

We stayed 3 nights in the new section (site 75). High priced but includes concrete pad, full hookups, cable TV (std def), and waterfront site. Site is narrow but level, with a great lake front view and all day breeze. Saw an eagle catch a fish. Was able to get satellite set up after a few tries to get clear line of sight. Fire ring was close to pad so we ran the porch awning in to avoid sparks.

These are "premium" sites, $185 for 3 nights, so we'll probably go back to one of our other favorite sites next time here.

Coleman Lake

We stayed three nights in site 21, $16/night with water and electric hookups, 30 and 50 amp service available. There is a dump station available. Plenty of shade, so no satellite this trip. Site 21 is paved, level with table, fire ring, and a couple of lantern poles. The area around the table and fire ring is graveled with pea gravel. Site 21 is a "corner" site next to the entrance road to the campground but traffic isn't a big deal. This campground is off the beaten path to the extent that there is no cell service at all. There is no cable or other connectivity. The bathhouses are adequate and one is close to this site. At this time the lake is closed for fishing due to restocking luntil 9/2017.
